Southern Brooks Community
Partnership are delighted to inform you that they have been successful
in receiving grant funding from the Heritage Lottery fund to run a
project in Patchway and Bradley Stoke to record the local history.
This exciting project which is
funded for the year from August 07 aims to bring together local children
and young people and older residents as well as families and carers to
explore what existed in the past through story telling, arts workshops
and audio recordings.
Amongst our advisors and
volunteers are Patchway and Bradley Stoke history groups as well as the
Patchway and Bradley Stoke Conservation group and a host of supporters
who will work with us to find out more about the local history and
identify areas and buildings that were important in the past.
With the historic and anecdotal
information we gather, we will work together with children and young
people and older residents to exchange, design and create a total of 30
permanent visual and text plaques which will mark important places in
the community.
This project is a real bonus for
both communities as it promotes National and Local Heritage as well as
the Conservation of the local areas by supporting and enhancing the
local community.
This is a great opportunity for
Bradley Stoke and Patchway residents to share their knowledge of the
areas history as well as informing people about key aspects of the area.
So, if you are interested in being
involved and have some stories that you wish to share about the local
area then we want to hear from you. We are really keen to document
stories about the local area, what happened, what the towns used to look
like, important buildings and prominent people in the area.
The plaques will be launched as
part of the Patchway and Bradley Stoke festivals in the summer whereby
we hope to work in partnership with lots of different groups in
promoting and sharing this great trail of the local areas for everyone
to enjoy.
